The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

BSI INSURANCE WILL OBSERVE THE NATIONAL DAY FOR TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION

September 14, 2021 – BSI Insurance will close all offices on September 30th to participate and recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

When the federal government of Canada created the new statutory holiday on September 30 to recognize the tragic history of residential schools as part of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission calls to action, BSI Insurance decided to support by closing all BSI offices for that day.

As a corporate and community leader in 16 different and distinct locations, BSI believes a responsibility exists to promote and practice reconciliation with Indigenous Canadians and our First Nations. Furthermore, BSI wants to ensure that its core values represent and drive many of the official 94 Calls to Action from the Reconciliation Commission.

“We don’t know how many of our customers or our team have connections to residential schools or findings within the Truth and Reconciliation report. We have to ensure our company embraces recommended changes as this date coincided with Orange Shirt Day,” said BSI CEO Ren de Moissac. “We want our team to use the day as an opportunity to learn and develop understanding and empathy for residential school survivors as we must all align to a larger change.”

BSI is working with our local First Nations communities to make a difference through partnership and donation as our offices are located on Treaty 1 Territory. We look forward to announcing our initiatives as part of our effort to make a difference today and in the future.
